Linux operating system

I did that, it is too blurry for me.
My only other suggestion would be to increase the fixed amount of ram allocated to the GPU, if possible, up to around 250 MB

That sounds interesting. Will ask the bot how to do it :D

Yeah, it's surprising how much difference a wee thing like that can make.

I did the same with ye anciente P4-based Inspiron 1100, many years ago. OOTB, Dell had allocated all of 1 MB RAM to the Intel 'Extreme' graphics chip. After the newest A23 BIOS update, it then got all of 8 MB! But what a difference; it didn't seem like the same machine any more.

I've no idea how the hell XP managed with a measly 1 MB, though it seemed to. The Linux 'X'-server definitely didn't like it.....

Did the same with the Athlon64/RS482-based Compaq desktop rig. OOTB, 'twas allocated just 32MB.....I jacked that up to the maximum 256 MB the BIOS would let me have, and the ATI Radeon Xpress200 GPU was a lot happier. I also cranked the Athlon's HyperTransport memory controller bus up to its max of 1 GHz while I was in there; it had been left on a 'medium' setting of 600 MHz. DDR1 was never, ever going to be fast, but a 66% increase in speed made a BIG difference..!

it will be in the bios/EUFI settings probably under memory
Finally got to try this the other day recently. There is no such setting in the old BIOS. I will probably put the 1TB ssd with Wilma back, and use as storage the 1TB HDD that is in my other machine right now with Win10, after I finally switch my third and last machine to Linux. I have a 4TB ssd ready for storage in the original slot and there already is another 1TB NVME ready for the OS. Plus upgrading the RAM to 32GB for smooth running of a virtual machine. I use QEMU on my newer laptop, but I will probably go with what I got recommended here for the one with 32GB RAM, that assuming it doesn't run from kernel like the QEMU does. Need to look into it a bit more. I am becoming a security freak day by day, learning about all those vulnerabilities. Even cleared my old list of logins to websites, shut down many accounts, many domains not existing anymore. Updating previously weak passwords and considering a proper password manager. Little by little I'll get there.

I have never had such a problem with a dell, so decided to do a bit of forum scraping, it appears the problem is probably with the Graphic drivers, the easyest fix I can find is to upgrade the Linux kernel to the latest 6.12 Kernel

This is the old Asus from maybe 2007 production, not the Dell. Dell is 2022 production.
How do I upgrade ready installed MX Linux from a recent download (should be up to date) to a higher kernel?

ah is saw Dell in your signature, which Acer is it?

One thing you can try that might help your video playback from the web is to - In Firefox you can uncheck the performance settings so it does not use hardware acceleration - It is under the General Tab - uncheck both boxes, then close Firefox then reopen it

You lost the track, since your first suggestions after reading my older and longer comment about revamping the old Asus laptop. It is of the F5RL series. I had it in a wardrobe with a broken hinge for years. Nobody wanted to buy it even for spare parts. Last year I fixed it and tried Linux. The rest you know already.

Tried that already, no difference.
Either the hardware cannot cope with the newer and higher demands on data processing on Youtube, or some extra tweak is needed in the MX distro. Reducing resolution results in blurry picture and still not quite right.

The Asus has a different resolution to most machines, check, the screen resolution is set for 1280 x 800

terminal inxi -G

apart from that, I Have gone through the comp leat spec for your F5RL series. and for the life of me I cannot see anything in the spec that may be causing problems.

my only other thought is if you installed with UEFI try again using Legacy

I started when Win-Doze ended support for Win. 7. I think that was in 2016-2017. I did not like any of the other Win-Doze OS options due to various issues with loading, speed, security, and basic concerns about being tracked by hidden things within the OS. I ran into a former neighbor in another state who was somewhat of a geek and told me he ran Linux. I believe I had heard previously that when you fire up the system, it loads rather quickly. I liked that and believe that was the main reason I switched to this OS. I initially started on Mint 19.1 and was fairly please with the performance. I'm on Cinnamon 21 now, but still a bit confused about Mint (thought support for this ended). The thing about Win-Doze that irked me was the fact that I felt I had to keep up with things all the time just to insure maximum performance. So I guess I've been a Linux user for about 8 years now, and feel perhaps that maybe I've overcome the learning curve. But I say that with some hesitation because I'm not a know-it-all that many others here have.

I'm not a know-it-all that many others here
We have some very knowledgable members in different areas of Linux and its use, but I would not say we have any know it alls, no matter how many years you have used Linux you will still be learning

Well, I'm just guessing people here know more than I do. I sometimes remind people I talk with that I'm not always the sharpest pencil in the pack.

As you should have gathered by now, you are approaching your 5th year as a member, if you ask for simple instructions someone will comply to your request, If you just ask a question, most of us will see how long you have been a member and possibly make the wrong assumption and use some techspeak

Fifth year? Oh Boy! Happy birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me......

How did you start using the Linux operating system?
My brother had to install Linux on the family computer to do some labs at college, and when it was installed I literally was the one using Linux the most, as I was amazed by it and it definitely sparked something in me.

How I was using it? Very precariously, as the space we had in the family computer was quite limited, ours somehow didn't support the linux bootoader very well so we had to plug a boot device every time to be able to use it, and on top of it all my dad was running his business on that computer and tinkering with the hard drive was making him very tense.

For the curious, that was 1997 or maybe 1998 -- I think I was still at High School. Yes, that linux booloader was no other than LiLo, and the boot devices we were plugging were save icons floppy disks. We had squeezed a Red Hat Linux 5.1 on 400 MB on a disk that had 2 GB total, on a Pentium MMX 166 MHz with 32 MB of RAM running Windows 95. My dad was very sus and while he was supportive, on an era where the backups were essentially dumps to floppy disks, floppy disks were prone to die, and reinstalling Windows 95 required hours and also floppy disks, it was a river not too easy to wade.
