Does anyone know if there is an automatic tool in linux mint 22.1 to help select the best download mirror, I seem to remember previous versions had a drop down box in software sources with an option to test for the best mirror for my locale but I can't find it in 22.1

Update Manager...Edit.....Software Sources.......Single click on the Main line....will produce a smallish window named ; Select a mirror....choose whichever one is quickest
Same with the 'Base' line...click the current http and it will produce the same 'select a mirror'

Yeah thanks for that but that's just how to manually adjust it but I thought there used to be something that would automatically test for the best mirror, I've selected one close to me but it isn't actually top of the list, so I don't know if it's best one or just the closest.

I am not aware of it. I will watch with interest

There is a new mirror called 'Fastly'

It started in ~June 2024.....I initially used it, but didnt really find myself impressed with its speed etc etc....maybe due to location (Australia).....but it then gave trouble so I gave it the flick until Clem pays it some attention. Depending on what he comes out with, I may use it again

People living in the States or Europe seemed to have a better time with it,.....and judging by the lack of complaints, they still do.

maybe this ? : https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/725265/how-to-test-fastest-mirror

Yes I did try fastly some time ago but I have reverted to local mirrors now, it's no big deal really I just like to be running at top speed if possible but I'm not actually experiencing any issues with updates so I will stick with how it is. Thanks for you timely replies

What country are you in

use mirror services.com when you load the full list of servers, then it should be the first UK one

There are faster ones in Europe, but i have not had any problems with them
