Linux mint installation problem

have been trying to get linux mint working on my new pc and i cand for the life of me, it started with only working in compatibility mode, then when i changed the boot thingy to nomodeset (as seen here) it started working, but once i had installed it to my ssd, it would not boot.

it may be something to do with the drivers however i have not been able to figure it out (rx 580 if that helps)

any solution would be much apreciated

Does it boot ok with the live usb? If so please boot to the live usb session and go to a terminal and
Type this command
INI: 
inxi -Fxxz
and post the output here.
This will give us an overview of your system so we can better guide you.

Welcome to the forums
It would have helped if you gave the full make and model number of your machine , and which flavor of Mint you are trying to install

sorry for not doing that before, i presume by model number you mean my pcs specs,which is an i3-10105f, an rx580, 16gbs of 3200mhz ram (g.skill ram if it matters) and a msi pro vdh wifi mobo with a bios flashed about a week ago.

im also trying to install linux mint 20.2 cinnamon

I mean the manufacturer and the modle number [example dell 1540]
if its one you built yourself, then if you can run it live from the pendrive, then open a terminal put in inxi -Fnxz [inxispace-Fnxz] copy and paste the output here
 
There is more than one model of the MSI Pro VDH which one do you have? (B550M? B350M?)

Look in your mobo book, if you have it.
 
So what is it doing? Does it boot from the USB or whatever media you're trying to use?

Does it just give you blank screen at boot?

Does it get anywhere during the install process?

I've had a few installs where the GUI would not start up. Installed using the CLI and then loaded up the GUI by figuring out which drivers/settings it needed to work. It seems to happen more on machines that have graphic cards with HDMI as the primary output.
 
RX 580 is AMD or ATI before AMD got them. There is real driver issues with NVidea. Only problem I ever had with Mint was on a new build it did not like the NVmE m.2. Works on the SSD with Dual Boot on the M.2 Win10.

it says its installed then asks too restart, after that it asks to remove the usb before booting into a black screen
 
It sounds like you may have an nvidia graphics card if that is the case you'll need to boot with nomodeset and then install the correct driver from the driver manager.

nope rx 580 according to bios
 
and i dont trust linux mints hardware detector

it thinks my i3 has 8 cores

not quite, what it sees is a quad core processor with two threads per core making 8 processing channels,
INXI can tell us more at a glance than we could ever hope to get from a novice user and is one of the main tools in any repair box

I've been using INXI ever since I found out about it. It really is helpful, especially for us old geezers who have problems remembering!
