Hi guys, I'm having issues with POP OS - the system keeps rebooting at times, especially if there is no activity. I like using Linux otherwise and would like to know if this is a common occurrence amongst users, I've heard that it is. I'm interested to know what the cause is.

It is not normal for a linux system to spontaneously reboot. If you heard that it is, that is altogether incorrect. The opposite is the case ... a linux system is particularly robust and known to be capable of running for years at a time.

Spontaneous or random rebooting is often associated with memory problems, that is, the RAM may be faulty, so that would be first thing to check. You can check it with the program: memtest86+, which can be run from a live disk. It may take some time to test the RAM but one would be wise to try and discount that as a problem in the first instance.

OK so to put things in context, POP is a clone of Ubuntu, BUT IT IS NOT Ubuntu. it has been assembles by system 76 specifically for their own machines, and until recent years was not seen on the normal Linux world, it is Tailored to the components used by system 76 so doesn't necessarily carry all the drivers a normal Linux build dose,. If it works on your kit out of the box Great, it not , then it will be a real pain in the butt to get it working properly,if this is your problem then i suggest you explore using a different distribution there are many equally good ones out there.

Clever little spammer almost got one by me. As I hit the approve button, I realized they'd edited their comment and sneaked a link into it. It took me a second to find an easy way to identify their posts and to swing the spam banhammer!

So, folks, if you notice weird edits you can bring it to our attention.
