Hi everyone!

I want to install Linux on my Acer Aspire A115-22 laptop, but any bootloader (Linux Mint, Arch, Debian so far) freezes during the LiveUSB boot process (for example, Arch Linux stops at "Downloading initrd.." and after some time gives a "timeout" error). The only time any Linux distribution booted was Tails, and that was after a 30-minute wait for the boot process (on the main PC and flash drive, the boot processes occur without any issues).

GRUB2 and Ventoy working without any problems, also any "first windows" where you can choose boot options works.

I have tried:
  • Secure Boot is disabled
  • Fast Boot is disabled
  • Tried a different flash drive
  • Tried each USB port on the laptop
  • Used Rufus, balenaEtcher, and Ventoy to write the flash drive
  • Wrote the flash drive with GPT/MBR, exFAT/FAT32

Can anyone suggest where to look next?

G'day Zedqwe, Welcome to Linux.org

A bit of light reading for you.

There are a lot of articles online re this problem......So it is not uncommon

Search for : install linux on Acer ASpire A115-22

There probably more than enough youtube vids on the topic as well

welcome
the N5030 / 1.1 GHz CPU was the lowest of the low, when it comes to entry level computing,so do not expect it to fly
, I would suggest you look at using a lightweight distribution such as Linux-Lite, BunsenLabs Anti-X , Bodhi,& Lubuntu.
Acers can sometimes be a pig to install Linux to, make sure you disable windows quick start and secure boot in the bios, whilst there check to make sure USB Boot is enabled, use the primary USB slot [this is usually the one closest to the power supply]

Hello @Zedqwe
Welcome to the Linux.org forum, enjoy!
Sorry can't be of much help here never owned an acer. But other should be able to guide you and get it going soon.

It's already a challenge deciding which Linux is lightweight and yet satisfying enough on my brand-new/old Dull NoteBook (...) so i thought i'd just pass on this one. Good luck to the players...
