Its a cool feeling when you see or hear a specific distro being mentioned in pop culture, because it encourages people to try it out, while promoting Linux as a whole and the principles of FOSS. There are a few links I found that talk about this (albeit a bit old):

Here's Canonical talking about Ubuntu's push into the mainstream: https://ubuntu.com/blog/2004-to-20-04-lts-ubuntu-in-popular-culture

Here's ITWire talking about Ubuntu, Unix, and various programs on Linux: https://itwire.com/the-linux-distillery/top-5-linux-references-in-pop-culture.html

Here's the Wikipedia page for Kali Linux mentioning it's appearance in Mr. Robot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali_Linux

What are some links you have or references you know of?

I've watched some American football this season. In many games, there's an IBM commercial that mentioned being partnered with RHEL. There are a few varieties of the commercial but they all mention Red Hat.

There's also a lot of ads for AWS (as they're partnered with the NFL) which is pretty neat - and also heavily Linux-biased. That doesn't mention Linux specifically.

It does make me wonder...

How many executives in charge of their company's tech does NFL think watch the games?!?

But, still, it's neat to hear the commercials mentioning Red Hat.

I clicked the link and it burst my bubble. The opening sentence is: "A few months ago, the hardware in my iMac s*** the bed one final time."

Seeing the "s-word" from "Wesley Crusher" was a big disconnect for me. Who said it was okay for him to grow up and become a real adult?

Kind of an old one, and not Linux specific, but in the movie Wayne's World II, Garth's girlfriend is carrying a copy of Richard Steven's Unix Network Programming.
