i've got a HP

not sure if thats newer or older than yours. im running slackware current, that might not be a good choice for you. Best bet is to boot Linux OS from usb and see how they work with hard ware. this might help : https://ventoy.net/en/isolist.html

Most any distribution should run on an HP laptop you can just create a live usb drive of the distribution if you want to test the hardware before actually installing. I've had Ubuntu LTS running on my HP laptop and currently I am running rolling release distro.
