Laptop battery monitor noise

I use ubuntu 18.04 on my Acer laptop and have an intermittant clicking sound which I have finally traced to the battery-state indicator. Each time the level changes it emits a click which is very annoying when listening to music.
The laptop is old and is mainly run with mains adapter as battery life is short.
How can I mute/remove battery indicator? and why the sound effect in the first place.

The problem is with the Software which shows the state of charge of the battery. Each time the reading changes it clicks.
