Hello World! So I have installed kali on my device and I am incredibly impressed. In addition to that I have the kali pentesting bible which is great for learning how to use all the tools, which is a myriad of tools. I'm committing the remainder of the year strictly to kali. Everyone have an amazing day........

Agree with you, Kali is awesome distro because it's rolling-release and comes with repository of great amount of tools, some of which don't exist in Debian, such as john the ripper or metasploit.
Sadly this means that using the tools on your daily driver is not always an option.
I already learned a lot of tools over the years, but my sources are not books, but online wikies and official sites of the tools, blogs etc.

Learning them all without any order is counter productive because it's easy to forget things if you don't use them often.
So my approach is to group tools according to purpose and write down a list.
Such as tools for cracking, tools for forensics, tools for exploits etc.
Then you have sorted them according to topics and can focus on specific topic.
This is useful because for specific topics you often need to go beyond just tools, e.g. for cracking you want to learn about cryptography as well.
For exploits you want to learn about programming, and so on each topic has some background knowledge that must be mastered too.
