Hi new here and in need of help. 68yrs. young.little slow at this LOL. i have 2 older dell desktops with windows xp and would like to know if i can install linux without losing any of my files etc.? many thanks for any help.

You can dual boot. You can keep Windows and use Linux. With 2Gb of RAM you can probably use any distro.

Before you dual boot, BACKUP,BACKUP, BACKUP, so that you have copies of your files if there is a catastrophe. An external USB drive?

Don't do anything until you safely backup any critical data (your files) to some device other than the computer that you want to install Linux to.
