Hello

I just loaded Ubuntu for the first time having not used Linux before, and after completing the installation and restarting the computer it comes up with 'invalid partition table'.
To continue I have to press enter.

Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it?

cheers
David

G'day David, Welcome to Linux.org

Do you have a SSD? (solid state drive)

Is this a Dell PC?

That should do it.......basically it involves changing to UEFI boot

Does that mean you achieved success ?

Need to create a 512MB partition on Ubuntu using Gparted as fat32 and format it, afterwards set the following flags on the partition boot, esp.
Restart it should be fixed

I had this same Invalid partition table_ error on an older Dell laptop after installing Ubuntu Server. I really need this server to come back up unattended should it go down in a power failure that exceeds the capabilities of its battery backup. Since I had just done the install and had not configured much yet, I set the BIOS to UEFI boot and reinstalled using a USB stick. Thinking that the problem might be with the BIOS accessing the LVM partition, I setup the drive with a single partition in addition to the 1 GB EFI boot partition. It worked like a charm. With this server, I don't expect lack of LVM features will be an issue.
