Hello everyone.

I'm pretty new to Linux and I'm still learning the basics, so I hope you have patience because I'm slow to grasp new information in this new world.

I'm on LXLE (and pretty happy with it, I already used to some extent Lubuntu, Ubuntu and Manjaro, and I find myself comfortable in LXLE) because I'm using a pretty old laptop. I have 3gb of RAM and the video card RS690M (Ati Radeon Xpress 1200).

The thing is, I feel something is missing regarding my video card. I know it's an old laptop, it's from 2007, but I find it weird that old games like Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines from 1998 (through Steam Proton, thank you Gabe) do not reach even 30fps. Even youtube videos are a pretty clunky.

I read a bunch of stuff regarding this but I don't quite understand what I need to do.

Can you help me with this? Is this normal? Should my video card be performing better? What drivers should I install? (and how should I install them).

I'm willing to provide any info you need if you are willing to guide me. The terminal is still new to me. Thank you in advance and excuse my poor english.

Welcome to Linux.org FangOfDoom.

All necessary graphics drivers for ATI Radeon graphics cards get installed at the time of install as the drivers are in the kernel.

Have you updated your Linux distro.

I think so, I installed all updates the distro threw at me. Is there a way to check my LXLE version?

But it still seems weird to me to have low fps in games older than my system. I have read threads that mention "fglrx", is that something that could help me in this situation?

Open the terminal and copy and paste this into the terminal and press enter

Code:
inxi -Fxz

and then copy and paste the output to a post.

Here it is:

I'm running LXLE and your version pretty much matches the version I'm using with the exception of a few different drivers for hardware.

So I'm clear on the update distro side of things, right?
There must be something I can do about this graphics card thing. I cannot even play the original Doom in fullscreen in 60fps! That doesn't seem right.

Your Linux appears to be updated.
How often do you check for updates.

In LXLE there's a updater.

lxle menu
control menu
software
check & install updates.

How tha games on Linux are supposed to run I have no idea I don't game.

I check everyday in that same way, so it seems my distro is updated.
Well maybe we are hitting a wall here. But thanks for your help Nelson. I will update if I find anything.
