Install Linux distro's on hyper-v fails - dell precision laptop- Light Display Manager

Why Linux fails to load/install direct to HDD, common reasons
1] Corrupt download [check SHA sum]
2] bad burn to installation medium [try again] [if you used Rufus then try Balena Etcher]
3] Wind 8.2 and higher quick start/fast boot or secure boot not disabled [doesn't normally apply to older versions]
4] defective pen-drive/DVD
5] hardware fault,
5A] If old style HDD run integrity check
5B]if SATA SSD check for hidden partition at the beginning of drive [this will stop Grub from loading] and delete it before re-installing Linux
If M2.NVMe check, your system is NVMe compatible [not all older kit is]

Basically to verify an .iso file, one gathers the .iso file and a couple of other files in the one directory and runs a command. The output of the command will indicate the validity of the .iso file.

Here are the details for ubuntu and mint using a linux system, or a below, a windows system:

copied iso again and this time it worked!
for Mint22, bellow errors appeared yet it solved through recovery. They are not stable though! and frequently I have to clear checkpoints, restarting, and use recovery for the next time booting.

yet I couldn't use gpg4win as "CertUtil" command , that said in this link ,did not work for me.

I can confirm the same results as the previous poster above . Cr.Cr.

To help anyone out reading this thread looking for installation help for linux in hyper-v, I'll post this.
I can only suggest that the hyper-v / pre-entered list of operating systems be used in hyper-V Quick-Create as everything else seems not to work..

I tried installing another ISO 2024-08-14. This time only using only the Quick Create feature in Hyper-V. I thought I was making progress and thought it would be successful, but the results were not good once restarted
after the LinuxMint install completed.

There were many unable to read page errors and other errors. My guess is hyper-v is at least partly responsible for this.

Steps I used.

1. Download ISO
2. verify ISO using powershell.
3. Open Hyper-V Manager
4. right mouse click - choose quick create
5. Click Change installation source button
6. browsing to the ISO did not work, i had to get the path via explorer and paste it
7. create virtual machine (took a few seconds)
8. virtual machine created successfully
9. Click connect button, then install linux mint from there.
10. After that was done I restarted linux mint but then received many linux errors..
11. Worse still, I was unable to shutdown or turn off the vm. Will need to do so with a restart or powershell. (I'll not provide that info)

3. Open Hyper-V Manager
As Administrator

6. browsing to the ISO did not work, i had to get the path via explorer and paste it
You need to browse in user profile other than the one you're running Hyper-V

4. right mouse click - choose quick create
Don't quick it, do it manually and learn every option you don't understand.
Probably most important is to create "generation 2" VM, quick create might create generation 1 which might not work.

CaffeineAddict, good points but i already spent a large amount of
time fruitlessly trying the manual option different ways.

i was not sure whether the Distro's were the problem. But the quick create feature
is the only way, so far, that gets an installer to work.

Anyway, maybe this thread will help someone else get further along with
solving the install problems.
