Install Linux distro's on hyper-v fails - dell precision laptop- Light Display Manager

I tried, a dozen times, but failed installing several distro's using Windows Hyper-V.
Linux Mint (mint and cinnamon) and EndeavourOS
I have a Dell Precision laptop.I tried both Generation-1 and Generation-2 hyper-v settings.
Same result.

[FAILED] Failed to start Detect the available GPU's and deal with any system changes.
[FAILED] Failed to start Light Display Manager.

I've not found a solution. Do you have a suggestion to make this work?
 


No. I have no experience using Windows, so I can't help with that.

I'd just use VirtualBox or maybe VMWare.
 
No experience with Hyper-V either. If I were to guess, you will probably have to check the different settings under the vm gpu settings.
 
I found I can install Ubuntu 22.04
There must be a problem with the other distro's I suppose or they haven't figured there is a problem.

Where do i report this installation problem?

how could u do so? I tried to use Ubuntu 22.04 lst but it did not work in neither Hyper-V nor VMware! the problem is that on Ubuntu, no installation window is shown!
 
Hyper-V Manager
Select your computer
Right click
Click "Quick Create"
Choose from the list or operating systems - Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Create Virtual Machine

I was unable to install and get any other Linux source to install except through the Quick Create

Like many members I have not run windows for many years[ over 20] as you cannot get Hypa-v yo work I would suggest you try on the windows forums [but don't hold your breath], or if you only want one Linux distribution then try using WSL

I used Ubuntu 22.04 LST as it was one of its own suggestion, yet i couldn't download it through Hyper-v since it is disconnected in the middle of downloading so I directly download it from Ubuntu website and the problem is that even Terminal does not open in "try or install" mode.

This is the problem! people work either with windows or linux, so it's difficult to find someone to help connect together two worlds :eek:o_O

BTW - doing the reverse - running a Windows VM on Linux - is rather easy, and I have a couple of Windows 11 VMs running on my Mint desktop at home, as I need Windows for work.
 
its your choice, Ubuntu, mint 22 [Ubuntu based] Mint LMDE [Debian based] are all equally stable so it becomes your preference, try each live from a pen-drive

That error is most likely an indication that the .iso file which is being used to boot, has a problem. It could be a problem with the actual .iso file e.g. it's been corrupted during download, or, it could be a problem with the actual writing or flashing of the .iso file to a usb.

The issue can be resolved by verifying the .iso file when you download it. There will be instructions on the parent web site about how to check the shasums, which is the way to verify it. After writing or flashing the .iso file to usb, and booting it, there may be an option in a menu to error check the usb, that is, to check whether the .iso on the usb is "able to boot". It's wise to select such an option if it exists.

If there is no other way to check the validity of the .iso file on the usb, then you can compare the size of a verified .iso file that was downloaded from a website, and the .iso file written to the usb. They should be identical in size.

If you've done things differently to the above, I can't say any more. YMMV.

yeah it can be as I am sending file from one computer to another.

for Mint22, I also got a message initial to "failed to start lightdm.service":

yet my question is that
Is it possible that my both .ISO files ( for Ubuntu and Mint) would be corrupted??
I cannot see any way to verify the files except checking the file sizes that are identical!
is there any lightweight app to check checksum of files?

Basically to verify an .iso file, one gathers the .iso file and a couple of other files in the one directory and runs a command. The output of the command will indicate the validity of the .iso file.

I have downloaded Mint22 with Torrent. I think Torrent check the file while downloading, isn't it?
