Because over the last several years there has been a lot of miss information about Init systems, I found that Jesse Smith's explanation of the various system in this week's distrowatch question and answer very good.

good read like @The Duck said, but sadly too diplomatic response is given by Jesse Smith which is difficult to argue about or to confront, the guy is certainly skilled in public communications, no doubt about that.
