This idea popped into my mind to try to make some profit, but there is one major obstacle, which is preventing Copyright violation.

ebooks like PDF's or which ever formats are easily pirated and downloaded from various shady libraries which can impact sales.
What methods does a writer have at disposal to prevent this?

I assume it not possible to 100% prevent it, but I'm curious how far one can push to reduce it to minimum and what methods exist to prevent it?

Other than this, what is the procedure to publish an ebook?

I don't think you'll get a whole lot of help with adding DRM to something, even a book.

Many Linux users are very much against DRM. They're also pretty vocal about it.

Easy Step by Step Guide To Publishing An eBook

You can publish your ebook on Amazon if you'd like.

Once you format your ebook, write a book description, set a price and upload your ebook to the platform to make it available for purchase you should be good.

I agree, the DRM will cause issues with people. I have a short story published and the best thing is just let the outlets you use take care of the problem. Make sure you do your copyright registration (very easy form) and then publish. I used a place called LuLu and they publish to amazon, kindle, nook, and about a dozen others. Don't get concerned with details like copyright infringement or pirating. Let the outlet worry about it. They each have their own method. Just do the part you do well which is write.

Oh, I will mention that you can remove eBook DRM with Calibre. There are a couple of ways but the easiest is to just change the format. If you like the format, just do it twice. Change it twice.

So, just change from .epub or .mobi to another format, like .pdf, and you're all set. If you really like the .mobi format more than the .pdf, just change it back when you're done.

Remember: This doesn't mean you should pirate stuff. This isn't intended for people to pirate things, including eBooks. This is just a way to have ownership of what you paid for and to ensure the company that sold you the eBook no longer has the ability to take that from you.

Support authors and pay for the books you read. Very few authors make a great deal of money. In fact, making any money is exceedingly rare these days.

there's no way to prevent piracy - that genie is out of the bottle. closest I can think of is to publish to a physical book/print media - but that just limits your pool of readers. I love books, the feel, the smell, the joy of turning pages - but I havent bought a book in 8 or 9 years, digital media is just too easy to use (kindle, etc). print media isnt dead, yet - but it's got one foot in the grave.
