My name is Brandi, I am new to linux.org, so I guess that means I would be classified as a beginner. which is fine with me. Everything that I have learned is by asking google a butt load of questions and a lot of confusing results that I tried to understand what I was reading by asking a question on the results of the prior question that I had asked just to try to get clarification to the question i originally asked in the first place, which by the time i gert this far I cant remember which nof the many questions that I have that I tend to become overwhelmed and a little discourged and then I once again go squirrel and am on some other project that I also am doing. I have severe ADHD, and keeping on track isnt always easy then lets add the damage to my brain that happened in 05 from a bad car accident to the equation and that all on its own has made it even harder to retain things as well as I was able to prior to the accident. So I need all the help that I can possibly get. And I am not into the OMG I am so sorry sh*t, I just need some understanding and non judgemental members willing to help me so I can help myself succeed and gain the knowledge that I ready to gain. Anyways, I am supoose to intrduce myself, I love photography, art, animals, long walks, and helping others. I have lots of projects that I have started and would love to find some people that is willing to be apart of my vision that will indeed be global and very successful once I am able to get it up and running. I dont have enough time or space to explain it here IM me if you are seriously interested., I love the linux that I currently have on my computer, BUT I am struggling with figuring out how to fix what ever is going on with the not being able to connect to the internet. I currently have Linux Ubuntu Studio, a little history about my lenovo flex 3, I got this computer from my ex-husband and when i originally got it him and his buddy somehow wiped the hard dive, and I cannot for the life of me figure out the hell they did but when I tried to install window 10 it would not allow me to do so. when it was brand new, I know that it was running windows 8, I only know that cause it states that on the back of the laptop. I have a Lenovo EliteBook flex-3 it has an intel core i5 vPro 8th gen processor 64bit and after multiple unsuccessful attempts of installing windows; I finally gave up and decided to try something else. My boyfriend is the one who told me about Linux and the things that I can do with Linux that I can't do on windows made me very interested in Linux. I then googled Linux and learned of the multiple different styles that Linux offered that I wasn't sure which one to pick. I opened my ChatGPT and asked it to help me pick which Linux I should pick for the type of things that I am interested in and like to do and Linux ubuntu studio almost covers all of the things that I has listed. plugged my USB drive into the laptop and it actually allowed me to install it as the operating system. for a few months and many updates, it would list a bunch of bios errors then it would open ubuntu studio. well 4 to 6 months ago after an update to no longer was able to access the internet. I was getting an error that I can't find anymore but I have it connected to our Xfinity Wi-Fi
account and it stated connected then an arrow down jumping from 3.8 to 3.1 to 2.5 the down to 0KiB/sand an arrow up with 0 B/s to 198B/s back to 0 B/s and none of the updates are updating. when I click on google chrome, I get a no internet check network, cables, modem, and router the reconnect to Wi-Fi then underneath that it shows DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET I DO RECALL AT ONE POINT IT STATED IP Configuration incorrect. I know I have written a lot, and I thank you for actually taking the time to read all that I have written, and I look forward to reading your comments and suggestions. I also attached a couple pictures and a short video of what it does when I power it on

You may want to use paragraphs.

Hello Brandi @baebaeeb
Welcome to the Linux.org forum, we were all newbies at one time. Enjoy the Journey!

G'day Brandi, Welcome to linux.org

I have it connected to our Xfinity Wi-Fi
account
First things first,,,,is the account up to date? paid for and connected to the premises....no signs of being disturbed outside anywhere?
I ask all this because being off the air for 4 - 6 months is a long time....it can be easy to forget just what else may have happened in that time.

You had a video of what it does when you power it on.....I assujme that was a bit hard to load onto the site here...can you describe in words instead ?

Welcome to the forums
do you have access to/know how to, open the router management program and check the Sync speed? if not and you have an internet connection, run a speed check [I use speedof.me]

As many hardware vendors only test their products with the (at that time) latest version of Windows, the "regular" code paths without the workarounds are often buggy. Hence some things just don't work right - Because of this Linux usually answers yes when asked if it's Windows. So trying to set the ACPI to a specific Windows as in this case will not work.

Linux also used to answer yes when asked if it's "Linux", but that caused BIOS vendors to work around bugs or missing functionality in the (at that time) latest Linux kernel version instead of opening bug reports or providing patches. When these bugs were fixed the workarounds caused unnecessary performance penalties and other problems for all later Linux versions.

acpi_osi=Linux makes Linux answer yes again when asked if it's "Linux" by the ACPI code, thus allowing the ACPI code to enable workarounds for Linux and/or disable workarounds for Windows.

Most of those ACPI Errors are harmless just more annoying then anything else

So I think you will need to modify your grub file which is located here /etc/default/grub

So it should look like

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux"

that should hide all those ACPI errors
