Hi guys, im rather new to linux and using ubuntu, i decided to put it on a old hp laptop i have (TPN C-125) but it is not picking up the wifi adapter, i have looked everywhere to try and find one but there only seems to be drivers for windows. does anyone know where i can get a driver from as the usb wifi dongle i am using at the moment is terrible.

thanks

Open a terminal, and enter this:
Code:
sudo lshw -C network
It will prompt for your password (use your normal login password), then copy and paste the results here in a reply.

What is the make and model of the dongle?

What is the output if you attach the dongle and put into a Terminal
Code:
lsusb
@jglen490 I don't know about Ubuntu, but I suspect it might show that lshw is not installed?

I've never had to separately install lshw, I believe it's a standard Ubuntu package. The lsusb will show a very generalized result. The lshw should show the attached hardware info, even if the driver is not installed. The dmesg also should show the dongle info if the OP inserts the dongle, and might give more hardware info.
