Hi everyone
Yesterday with a lot of help I got Zorin working as a dual boot for the first time on my decade old HP laptop, by which I mean I got the wifi working. I'm here because of the end of support for Windows 10 and not having the specs to buy Windows 11 and I gather that is pretty common.

Thank you everyone for being there and I am sure I will need to come back.

G'day Earthlight, Welcome to linux.org

That is a good move......and Yes, the win 11 thing is very common.

Wifi working?....now that's a plus !

Welcome to the forums, now you have started your journey, I will not lie to you, you will be now entering a learning curve, it's up to you how steep you make it so

Sit back, kick off your shoes, grab a beer, and enjoy the ride

[for beer, read as your favourite tipple]

It's ok I'm not busy. Beer will do fine. Thank you again for the help and support, hope to at least pay it forward one day

Welcome aboard. Take your time and write notes as you go and then you can refer back. You tube videos are a plenty and of course best of all the combined knowledge of this community.

G'day @Earthlight from another Aussie, and welcome :)

If you are prepared to put in a little self-help, we have your back for help when that comes up short.

My late wife and I loved the old film by that name. The concept epitomised what she and I tried to do in life, and it is also exemplified by many of our volunteer helpers in our Linux community here.

Works for me

howdy! yeah win10 reaching end of life in a few months and hating win11 is why I switched to linux as well. it's a bit of a shift, things work a bit differently in linux but that's fine. nice to hear your wifi is working now ;)

It is unfortunate that many people no longer believe in paying it forward and even fewer understand the very concept of noblesse oblige. Things like humility and compassion are ignored by many, but I don't want to derail the thread too much.

Hopefully, OP will find an online 'home' here in our little community. Just by reading, a person can learn a lot. One of the best skills they can learn by reading is how to properly troubleshoot a problem. As threads progress, they'll see the logic behind some of the comments and be better able to understand how their system works - and how to fix it when it doesn't work.

Thank you everyone, most kind. Yes Darry1966 I have started a notebook for this strange new language. I can see why a lot of people like for tinkering with their setups - because they can.

Wizardfromoz I am sorry for your loss, your late wife sounds nice.
