Hello, I am completely non-techy and need help upgrading from Linux Mint Cinnamon 19 to the latest edition. I've read through other posts and searched around online, but the instructions are all beyond my understanding. I'm older and don't even do any kind of social media. I'm using Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop that originally had Windows on it, but Windows has been removed. I discovered I needed this upgrade when I tried to upgrade Firefox and it wouldn't, apparently because my version of Linux is too old as well. I did the sudo apt upgrade and sudo apt update, but still have Version 19. I've also read that I will have to go thru the steps to upgrade to version 20 first and then proceed from there. I can see that being a nightmare. Would it be better if I just ordered a new thumb drive with the new Linux on it and then put my documents on that? Thanks for any help!

G'day NotTechy, Welcome to Linux.org

The most straightforward way to avoid that nightmare, is probably to do a fresh install of Linux Mint 22.1

As far as I know ordering a thumb drive with Linux on it is not doable....It may be , but I have not come across that, personally

We can guide you through putting Linux Mint 22.1 on a thumb drive (8 gb) and doing a fresh install with that.
It may have a few bumps along the way, but we can likely get you through those bumps

I just suggested the thumb drive because that was how I originally received Linux, but that was a long time ago. I'll pick up a new thumb drive tomorrow and get back with you. Thank you!

You can't upgrade from Mint 19...it's no longer supported and is always better to do a clean install...download Mint Cinnamon 22.1 and burn it to a Flash Drive with Etcher.
