How To Install A Higher Version of the Kernel, Build/Compile and Make the System Used It

interesting

Code:
/dev/sda1 19G 12G 6.0G 67% /

I don't see anything full, but I will say, 20G is a pretty small drive for a system you will be compiling a kernel on.
But still, it seems to be saying you have 6G available.
Learning from this experience. If I have to being all over again I'll increase the size of the ext4 partition.
Right, I see that there's still 6G's of space.
I went forward with executing 'make modules' and it's been running fine for the last 30 minutes.

Two hours later only 5m left on the disk.

Code:
/dev/sda1 19G 18G 5.0M 100% /

Looks like I'll have to increase the size of the partition or start all over again and make a new vm.

After going into the settings under 'Tools' for the virtual machine the option to increase the size of the Debian. vdi is grayed out. The virtual size and the actual size differd by 4 gig's.
It appeared that I would have to start from scratch and create a new vm for building a kernel for Debian.

Thinking that I'd have to start anew, I closed the vm waited and re-launched Virtual Box.
To my surprise I was able to resize the Debian.vdi disk to 80 Gigs. Maybe that's over the top however; I'm new at this.
I'll have to apply myself to building a new kernel tomorrow.

The Debian log in screen takes me in a loop repeatedly and can't log in. I am not able to fix it in Recovery Mode for the newer kernel or the older fall back kernel that came with Debian 12. Log in fails with that as well.

I'll have to either re-install Debian 12 in Virtual Box or consider a refurbished laptop in order to compile a new kernel. Taking a break for now.

I deleted all the files to the Debian 12 install in VBox.
Starting over again with a fresh installation. Once I bring Debian up-to-date then I'll download kernel 6.12 or higher.
Might take till the weekend to get this done as I have to work tomorrow.

The install went well with the exception of the IBus issue.
I'll have to update it later and download kernel 6.12 or higher.
:)

Bringing Debian 12.4 up to date to 12.9 didn't go well.

I started the 404 package upgrade at 3:25 p.m. and by 4:50 p.m. I ran out of time. The update was still only at 40%.
I'm not sure why this isn't moving along well so I'm leaving the sleeping dog alone for now.
