HOW TO DOWNLOAD LINUX TO A OLD MACHINE

Hello! If you haven’t chosen it yet, I can recommend, for example, Linux Mint with LXDE/XFCE/MATE, Lubuntu, Zorin OS/Zorin OS Lite

Debian with XFCE would be my recommendation, a combination of a really stable distribution with a really stable desktop environment that is also very light on resources and relatively fast.

I also recommend
Debian because, echoing what Brickwizard stated about the vast majority of penetration testing focused distributions being built upon a Debian base, and thus knowledge gleaned from using Debian should translate into being able to use and maintain such a distribution better.

Debian is sometimes considered to be a moderate expertise required distribution to install and use (in no small part due to non-free software and firmware requiring extra steps to install and source), just a fair warning, but with a sensibly old computer hardware support * should * be relatively good.

If you do not feel comfortable with Debian proper, Linux Mint Debian Edition would be my other recommendation.

my device currently runs slow probably because its only 4 gb
No it will run slow because you are trying to run Windows 10 on a 13 yrs old Windows 7 machine, also it will have a plate spinner [traditional] HDD, By installing a medium weight Linux, it will run faster than it did with Win 7, however to get the best out of that machine take out the plate spinner and put in an entry level SATA SSD, even if you only have SATA 2 , you will have a noticeable difference in data transfer speed time by around a factor of 4 [my now defunked 16 yr old lappy with Mint LMDE, went from a boot time of around 1 min 22 sec to around 44 sec and page openings were quick]
