Hi,

I am running Ubuntu 15.04, I want to either disable, hide or permanently remove the bar at the top of my screen. I have searched the internet but had a hard time finding exactly what I need, or in a way that I understand. I have tried multiple tweak tools and the gconfig-editor, for some reason the gconfig-editor has only a few items in it, not the items others seem to have.

I'm not a terrible fan of the side bar either, would love to try linux without unity but am afraid to mess up. If I remove unity, can I always easily get it back? I can find tutorials for previous Ubuntu versions, but not this one, can someone tell me the commands necessary? Thanks.

There is a "Unity Tweak Tool" that will allow you to auto-hide the launcher on the side of your desktop, but it doesn't look like it will alter the top panel. See here if interested:

Other Ubuntu flavors, Kubuntu and Lubuntu, put the panel on the bottom instead of on top, if that would help. I don't know if they might allow you to hide them.

If you want to see numerous screenshots of dozens of different Linux distros, check out this page: http://www.linuxscreenshots.org/

Cheers!
