Devuan is a good solid distro with a good community with refracta tools to save your changes when remastering. Others here can help you with things like effects and icons.

Just a tip @Accidental - don't go duplicating a person's reply, particularly when it contains a link, as then it comes across my desk in Australia for approval and you could be waiting hours.

Darren knows what he typed to you.

Cheers and welcome to linux.org.

If you have the source code you can build it to what you want like Gentoo which is built from source. I am going to leave you in the hands of people who know more about compiling - good luck.
Here is a starting point........

Building a distro from source takes a lot of work and time but the reward is a faster system,

Building from an established distro is easier and you will achieve your goals of a personlised distro the way you want it. Ubuntu also offers a system to build a distro.

IMHO you might be better trying a few Linux first, get acquainted with how it operates, and only then, with some experience under your belt, considering tinkering with the tools.

You mentioned Garuda in a duplicate Thread that I deleted - have you used that, or if not, what have you used so far?

I am busy working between distros and rebooting, updating and running Timeshift, so if I don't respond for a while, the answers to my questions may help others to advise.
