Noob, I apologize if this has been discussed, but I searched the threads with no luck.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5400 AIO(all in one), just over 1 year old, this machine had that junk windows 10, and I installed Mint, so far so good, but have been having audio issues. Everything is working, but there's almost always background static, sometimes mild, sometimes loud and annoying. I have all the windows drives for this machine on the desktop, I just want to try and install the windows audio driver and see if it fixes the background static.

Audio:
Device-1: Intel driver: snd_hda_intel
Sound Server: ALSA v: k5.13.0-27-generic

Thanks for your time, mucho appreciated

You can not use Windows drivers on Linux, unfortunately.

There may be better drivers, depending on your device.

What's the output of:

Code:
inxi -A

In one of my boxes I'm seeing a different driver - slightly more modern. Mint is based on Ubuntu and this distro is in the Ubuntu family.

What's the output of:

Code:
lsb_release -a

It might be worth trying to replace Pulseaudio with Pipewire?
Code:
$ inxi -A

First try the upgrade command in post #10.

Sorry, I mean post #8 - the upgrade command. Here it is again:

Code:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y

I'd start there - hoping for a least invasive repair. Let's make sure you have the latest drivers on offer.

Whelp... You've got whatever the system's gonna give you.

I think, if it were up to me, I'd go ahead and give @f33dm3bits' solution next. I've seen it done bit never needed to try it (he'll explain it better) but it's easily undone if it doesn't work.

Or trying to install the mainline kernel to see if there is driver that works better might also be an option. I've never used Pipewire on Ubuntu or Mint but it is possible.

As an absolute noob, the link looks kind of daunting, that being said, I've had very little crackling noises from my audio today. But I doubt it will be gone forever, so WHEN it returns, I'll try your link.

I appreciate the assistance from all you fine folks.
