LOL I've splurged a few times on a Titan. I didn't buy laptops from them, I bought 'mobile workstations' from them. The price gets up there quickly.

I believe their prices will most like keep me from ever buying one new. Part of the cost is probably related to that fact that they manufacturer their own parts and build them in the U.S. Not going to be as cheap as having them manufactured in China, where parts and labor are much less.

Nice hardware but if you buy your hardware from a regular vendor it will probably cost you a lot less for the same setup because everything is more expensive when you order it from System76. What are you planning to do with your system, running it as a vm host, Plex server, another server function or compiling Linux kernels from source. If not for one of those tasks or something similar that is way overkill for a desktop system. If you are able to spend $50,000 on a new laptop and a new desktop, I'm sure you can afford a "Gold Supporter" membership for linux.org

You don't know me well. Or you think I'm out of my out of my gourd if you think I would pay $45K for that. lol

I was specing them out for giggles.

The few I've owned weren't the full-spec beasts that you can configure, though still a bit pricey. They held up really well. The first two were while I still worked and then I kinda splurged on one when I retired.

For as little time as I keep devices, it's really not worth it to spend that much on a device - for me. So, I haven't bought one in a while. I do sometimes visit, configure, and ponder... They're really good machines.

That's why I wanted one of their machines so bad. Probably the best Linux / Hardware coupling you're going to find. Maybe one day I'll save enough to get one. For now I'm doing the next best thing; Acer Swift 3 with Mint. For an 1/8 of the cost.

I don't think anyone knows anyone well on a forum, with a few exceptions maybe. Glad to know you aren't willing to pay such an amount for computer hardware.

I have online buddies that I've known for years, even meeting a number of them in person. I once went on about a 4 month drive around the country visiting people I knew from the 'net.
