Hi,
I am in New Zealand. My name is Enoch111 and after using Win11 Home on new laptop bought late last year I am planning on switching eventually to Ubuntu first off as dual boot then if I like it I will get Win11 removed completely.
Win11 is already giving me problems, although not as much like others out there. Linux seems like the obvious choice. So after looking around at which Linux I would like I settled on Ubuntu.
Not sure which flavor yet but I will continue to look around.
Nice forum, by the way.
Cheers,
Enoch111 :=p

Welcome, Enoch 111, to Linux.org !

Might I suggest you take a careful look at Linux Mint as well as the others you have in mind

Welcome Enoch also from NZ. There are many Linuxes to choose from as my colleague above has said Linux Mint. A Ubuntu with some Minty bling is a good starting point. Also MX Linux as well. Distrowatch has some interesting imformation best of luck in your new adventure. Take your time and you'll learn along the way.

Welcome, A kiwi makes a change from an Aussie,

looking around at which Linux I would like I settled on Ubuntu.
Nothing wrong with Ubuntu or its clones, Xubuntu and Lubuntu are slightly lighter than the full-blown main distribution

Welcome, brother from the Land of the Long White Cloud (across the ditch).

Seems like a Commonwealth Club so far, here.

We have two Brians here -

Brian @Condobloke who is a cheeky Aussie sod, and

T'other Brian, @Brickwizard who is a cheeky Pommie sod.

Cheers

Speaking from some not so up-to-date experiences, I agree: Linux Mint.

I was running a business with the help of Windows 7. Gradually, our PCs slowed down to such a crawl —not to mention forced updates in the middle of working— that we we had to switch to Linux. For some reason, I chose Ubuntu, probably because one computer was already running it. Later, a good friend and employee suggested Linux Mint Mate. So we did. I forget the details, but we all preferred Mint.

Today, so I've heard (someone please correct me if necessary), that Ubuntu now requires Snap packages. In the old days, we could simply install whatever software that we needed with apt get packagename or Synaptic (which is not as maintained as it once was). No more .deb files.

I read and participate in several other Linux forums. And the most often recommended distro for a person who has never used Linux is Mint.

The MATE desktop is okay, but I preferred Cinnamon. More colorful.

Finally, I grew tired of Mint* and installed two other advanced distros with the KDE Plasma desktop available as a DE option. But I wouldn't recommend either of them to a complete newbie.
*I'm just a guy that can't stand looking at the same thing for months and years on end, thus the main reason why I dropped Linux Mint.
