thanks arochester....much appreciated, i got sorted with an AV - NOD32 has a GUI and uninstaller package.
I will take a gander at those links

NOD32 used to get good reviews by Windows users I knew, good luck.

Maybe too late now, but if you are installing the AV from outside of Studio's repositories, it would be a good idea to take a snapshot of your system first with Timeshift, referred to earlier by Brian (@Condobloke ). Then, if anything goes wrong, you can roll back. Uninstallers with proprietary software packages seldom make a clean job of it.
