Help downloading linux?

when installing linux mint 12 should I download DVD 32bit or 64bit or CD no codecs 32 bit or 64 bit currently i am running windows vista 32bit and i want to format the hard drive get rid of EVERYTHING i dont care about loss of data i just want a fresh laptop with nothing on it and then install the linux mint 12 operating system. TRY TO KEEP IT FAIRLY BASIC AS I DONT HAVE A GREAT UNDERSTANDING OF OPERATING SYSTEMS.

1) The current release of Linux Mint is 19 and not 12.
2) If you have a 64 bit computer than the 64 bit version will run better. The 32 bit version will still run on a 64 bit computer.

if you are not sure whether 64 bit or 32 bit...tell us which windows is on there at the moment. (windows 10, windows 8....etc etc)
