I've lurked on the site for some time now, and decided to register. I do have a couple of things I'm hoping to get some help with. I'd say I'm a novice when it comes to Linux. I love it, but am not a heavy user (yet). I went to school to get a degree in cyber crime technology, which included courses in Linux use that piqued my interest. I'm looking forward to learning all I can and talking with y'all.

G'day isoldec, and Welcome to linux.org

Hello isoldec,

Welcome to Linux.org.

Best way to learn Linux is to jump in and test drive a few Linux distos.

Here's a good place to start.

https://www.linuxliteos.com/

https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/

https://www.linuxliteos.com/download.php#current

Here's a good way to do it.
Written for Linux Mint it will work for most Linux distros.

Here's a good read.

G'day @isoldec and welcome to linux.org :)

Make distrowatch.com your friend, and its Page Hit Ranking lists a couple of hundred of the most popular Distros.

Become acquainted with DEs (Desktop Environments) through this article

https://renewablepcs.wordpress.com/about-linux/kde-gnome-or-xfce/

and if you need help with installing a Distro, tell us the Distro name, version and DE, even in the subject title, in Getting Started.

Albeit you are interested in Cyber Crime, we advise not to go jumping into eg Kali without some experience in mainstream Distros first.

Have a read of this Post of mine at #5 in this Thread

https://www.linux.org/threads/linux-for-cybersecurity.19269/post-57380

and you can see you can still try Penetration Testing in other Distros.

Cheers and we look forward to sharing your journeys.
