I'm thinking to migrate my ThinkPad P43s workstation windows laptop and eventually my desktop PC once I'm comfortable enough around Ubuntu for its privacy and security and open source apps. tho not sure if steam supports most of my games in my steam library.

You can check which games run on Linux on the following site:

https://www.protondb.com/

Input name of your game into search bar and search, games marked as "Gold" run fine, games marked as "Silver" might run with additional configuration.

You can also install Lutris and WineHQ-staging to run games without steam client, Lutris supports connecting to your steam account as well as other game stores such as Epic, GOG and many others.
