Grammar/Spell checker

Perhaps these will explain.

slackware which is my OS is a bit quirky in that a lot doesn't work until you make it. From memory my spell checker wasn't working either. Until i got dict-en.oxt file , then went to tools , extension manager and navigated using extension manager to add my dict-en.oxt file.

Have a look here https://extensions.libreoffice.org/en/extensions/show/english-dictionaries

That's strange because the spelling checker has always worked in all the versions of Libre Office that I have used. I never needed to add anything or change any settings.

To my knowledge, there are no native spellcheckers besides using “Check Spelling and Grammar” under “Tools.” Linux is very versatile though, and you could use the many tools out there that work for the entire system rather than LibreOffice exclusively. As for these, I would recommend aspell, though I am unsure what distribution you are using. This program is seemingly only available to distro’s using apt (basically Debian). Have a nice day!

It's available for pretty much everything. When in doubt, you can cheat and use pkgs.org and have a gander at which distros have the package available. It's not 100% accurate, but it's 'close enough'.

In this case, the URL would be: https://pkgs.org/download/aspell

link-grammar https://www.abisource.com/projects/link-grammar/
Description: Carnegie Mellon University's link grammar parser
In Sleator, D. and Temperley, D. "Parsing English with a Link Grammar"
(1991), the authors defined a new formal grammatical system called a
"link grammar". A sequence of words is in the language of a link
grammar if there is a way to draw "links" between words in such a way
that the local requirements of each word are satisfied, the links do
not cross, and the words form a connected graph. The authors encoded
English grammar into such a system, and wrote this program to parse
English using this grammar.
.
link-grammar can be used for linguistic parsing for information
retrieval or extraction from natural language documents. It can also be
used as a grammar checker.

yep i use aspell on Slackware - current to check html documents for spelling that i edited with geany ; since geany a good text highlighter and light IDE does not have spell checker (to my knowledge)
