Just joined, I am trying to migrate from what the Redmond facility OS provides to Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon,
Currently using Win 10 pro 64 bit, 22H2,19045.2251, HAL9000 is a 2009 HP G61-320CA Notebook Laptop
Recently Upgraded the DDR2 Sodimm, 200 pin, 3 GB, PC2-6400, 667 Hz to 8 GB PC2-6400 800 Hz,
Recently Upgraded WD 320GB, 5400 RPM HD to WD 500GB, SSD, Current Interface Speed: Gen2, 3.0 Gbps,
Sadly only 50% of the SSD 6.0 Gbps capability is able to be utilized, Not sure if I can upgrade the SATA to Gen3

Yes, SATA 3 is backwards compatible BUT it will only run at the speed of your system [SATA1 or 2] A 2009 machine as you say is SATA 2, and that's the fastest you will get.

G'day HAL9000, Welcome to Linux.org

I see you have 'seen the light' !! (and added a 0 )

So SOL on upgrading this SATA, Likely not worth it for the performance improvement I would gain, Replacing the HDD for the SSD I installed is still an improvement, it was a 5400 RPM HDD

Ok....I am now a little more educated re HAL9000 !

I installed a nvme M.2 drive on my pc....the benefits were obvious, but It was still limited by the system to some extent.

To me, it is quick....and that is all that matters.

You weren't familiar with the great 2001: A Space Odyssey?

I can't let you do that, Dave. Kubrick, as memory serves. Brilliant movie for its time, though the physics are a bit wonky at times.

SATA 2 SSD will be faster than a disc spinner, the seek time is vastly improved

True but it still bugs me that I am only able to use 50% of the SSD read/write capability

Welcome to the Forum.
