Today thunderbird turn 20 years old. I think I have pretty much been using it for all 20 years

My memory isn't that great but I've been using Thunderbird since at least 2007. I'm pretty sure I used it before I switched to Windows. I legitimately liked Outlook Express (not Outlook), and Thunderbird reminded me of it. So, I had no issues just migrating over.

Outlook express was good value.

I found my initial foray into T'bird to equally good value if not a tad even better

Currently.....disappointed. i am finding it erratic....sometimes checks for fresh mail...sometimes doesn't....appears to vary according to which folder is highlighted at the time?!...weirdness...erratic

Other than that, I have had a good run with it since .....forever.

Not sure when I started using T'bird, but it was a pretty long time ago.

I just recently learned that the "policies" trick for preventing firefox from nagging about updates works for thunderbird, too. Yay!
