ubuntu 18.04lts
i have uninstalled IBUS and purged it.

i have installed fcitx according to this webpage

because i dislike any china software (don't trust them, until ccp being over thrown)
i chose to use fcitx method.
i have installed
sudo apt install fcitx fcitx-googlepinyin fcitx-table-wbpy fcitx-pinyin fcitx-sunpinyin

launch Language Support utility and select use Fcitx:

restarted computer

BUT!!

These list i can't find it on my computer:

There was a similar problem with my system: I was able to choose "Chinese", but I really couldn't find an entry in Chinese. The important step is missing. For example:

sudo apt-get setup ibus-pinyin

In this example, after installing Pinyin, go to System Settings → Language Support → Chinese (Pinyin).

Now it works like waiting.

This topic helped me to find this solution. It also suggests another input method:

sudo proper-get install ibus-sunpinyin

PS

Don't forget to restart the IBus background after doing any of these commands

ibus restart

but i uninstalled ibus. because i don't want 2 input methods.. ibus and fcitx. i have choosen fcitx as input method. because ibus chinese input method is kind of lousy. other ppl told me better not to have several input method. hence purposely unistalled ibus than install fcitx.

how you are asking me to install ibus-pinying ? :)
