Looking at the screenshot CentOS8

Good catch! I see the 8 now.

This might sound crazy - but they might actually want CentOS ^Stream 8 for some reason. I know... It's crazy, but there are fans of the changes made by Red Hat to CentOS. I am not one of them. No, no I am not. But, it's possible! :D

Edited: Missed a word.

The other option is to convert the installation to CentOS Stream 8.
Code:
dnf --disablerepo '*' --enablerepo extras swap centos-linux-repos centos-stream-repos
dnf distro-sync

I too am having issues with the update system.
Have you even bothered to read the other replies? Let me summarize it for you, since you didn't.
CentOS 8 has been end of Life since 31-12-2021, you have two options:
1. Migrate to CentOS Stream 8
Code:
dnf --disablerepo '*' --enablerepo extras swap centos-linux-repos centos-stream-repos
dnf distro-sync
2. Migrate to Rocky Linux 8.
