The long-term support (LTS) releases of Ubuntu used to get support for five years. This is changing now. Ubuntu 18.04 will now be supported for ten years. Other LTS releases might also get an extended support

According to this article It looks to me as if this is Ubuntu server versions only so we desktop users will still have only the 5 or 3 years of support.
From reading all links, it appears to me that the jury is out yet on whether Home Users will reap the benefits, but that the It's FOSS people will let us know.
