After new install of 19.3 Cinnamon the computer was very slow to boot, but ran fine once installed. After trying a few ways to speed it up, I removed Cinnamon and installed Mate on the machine with Windows 7. It was just as slow to boot, but again, ran fine once installed. The computer has 4 GB of ram. Windows 7 seems faster than usual to load to a bright desktop and lots of icons on the desktop. Please advise.

Good Morning to you and thank you for your response. It is a 80gb hard drive and the partition for linuxmint is 30gb. I failed to mention in my query that while booting it seems the hard drive activity light is not wearing itself out. And even when it lights up it is mostly just a blink here and there.
