I recently tried to install and run Elementary since they now have Wayland integrated into the OS. The installation actually goes very well. My biggest issue with the install is that I entered my language, keyboard, and format two times. Next I entered my Identity which is the same as all other variants but when I supplied my password (used in all of my builds) it stated that my mix of letters and numbers was a Dictionary word! This is where the issues began.
First go-around: I got a complaint about my password and the text was red. So as a former OS tester I decided to click button to accept it. Well it let me go forward but when the login panel came up my account was locked. With no way to move forward.
Second install and go-around: everything went as before but this time I put a # in the center of my letters and numbers. This time I was able to log in. Very good. And already there were updates. Now I have to point out that this system runs an Nvidia RX 4060 but it was working absolutely fine. Now. Then the updates ran and all I got was a black window and a frozen mouse. Not good. With a little work I got back to the login screen (it was not a simple reboot using the button because they are also changing the definition of the power button). I switched to the X11 interface but they wanted updates applied again. I begged off that.
Now when I had an update completed I was told I had to restart the system which leads me to issue #2. The UI has nothing available to manage it. After clicking a buttload of buttons and locations and hitting several button combinations I googled it. Oh. My. God. I have to go to Applications, search Shutdown or Restart, then click it. Click/Type/Click is gawdawful compared to just Click/Click
So I then install Firefox which is not in the app store and instead required doing a sudo apt install firefox. So the next thing I wanted to do was add it to my panel but right clicking the app did not allow that. To this day I do not know what is necessary but I could not try running the application then selecting it to pin to panel because of the black window update bug.
So I reached the point I do in many variants. I cannot do easily what I do in Mint so I reinstalled Mint and waiting for Elementary 9.0
