After installing the .deb pg for Discord on my Debian 12 install it runs/behaves like it's missing libraries and other things that make the api work.

Additional Details
After logging into Discord the new window opens and asks to select an item that does not repeat. After selecting those items and clicking verify the captcha says please try again. After several attempts the captcha window crashes and takes me back to the log in again.

I've removed it with dpkg and reinstalled it after a reboot and it continues this behavior.

A gentlemen on GitHub wrote a script to fix the update issue here:

Is this script the answer?

....shows it as being 'verified'.....

if this were me, I would put a Timeshift snapshot in place and then try it out

@Alexzee :-

I gave up on the desktop app a LONG time ago. It's more trouble than it's worth.

If I want - or need - to use Discord (for whatever reason) I use the webapp. It's identical to the desktop client anyway, since the latter is built with Electron (which has a stripped-back Chromium browser powering it). And if you run any of the Chromium-based browsers, you can set the webapp up in such a way that it opens, ON the desktop, in its own dedicated window....just like the client!

That's entirely up to you, of course; IIRC, you're a Firefox man, aren't you?

Yes, Firefox indeed.

Is using the webapp the same as running it in the browser?

The two are the same. The browser-based version of Discord IS the "webapp".

I believe there ARE slight differences between them. These mostly revolve around the use of Discord for video-calling; the desktop client is able to handle video-chatting properly, whereas the webapp has - or had, the last time I looked at it - "issues' with audio & microphone.

At lest, it did for me. This mostly revolves around the fact that Discord expects to find a built-in microphone that's set-up for 'global use' across the system.......standard fare for laptops, of course. Desktop rigs don't HAVE built-in microphones, and the Discord desktop client offers no way to choose from a different sound card OR anything other than a 'built-in' mike.

I never use Discord for video-calling, anyway. My preferred browser(s) are Chrome and several of the Chromium-based 'clones'.....Brave, Iron, Slimjet, etc. I have several launcher scripts set-up within my 'portable' build of Chrome that let me launch multiple different video-calling 'apps', each in its own dedicated window; Google's 'Meet', Jitsi's 'Meet'; the Skype webapp (this one's for Windows-using family who won't look at anything else!); the M$ 'Teams' webapp (the 'enterprise' version of Skype); the Swiss 'Wire', from Wire gmBH; Cisco's 'Webex', and the webapp version of Zoom.

I think that's enough to cover most of the bases, don't you? :p

You can NEVER have too many 'alternatives'.....

This was an attempt to access a friend's Discord server in Foxcroft Maine.
I'll let her know that this is not functioning properly on my Linux box.

The program keeps going in circles no matter what I try so I'll be removing it.

Doesn't sound like the process of being able to establish other options for sound was well thought out.
YUP, what you've said has covered the bases.

Thanks :)

Well, it doesn't look like there is a way for me to fix this. I've got better fish to fry.

Anyway, for the next 4 weeks or more, I'm placing more focus on learning Visual Studio and writing Slack Build scripts.

Thanks for the help and information.

Foxcroft Maine.

Dover Foxcroft.... They're a 'big' town here with maybe 4500 people in the town.

While a useless comment that adds little, I can't really let Maine go without comment. ;-)

(I love my adopted home.)
