Hi everybody,

Can someone help me to find the driver for Debian or Ubuntu Linux Distribution?

Sincerely,

Andrew

Hi Andrew! Welcome to Linux.org!

Here is a good place to start. Right on Dell's website, access to the proper driver is there as well.

Hi Bayou Bengal,

Thank you for your welcome :)

According to your link, I have to use Ubuntu distribution.

Quid if I want to use Debian distribution. Can you find a similar link? Or, turns the last on Debian and other version / distribution?

Sincerely,

Andrew

G'day @andrewm1987 and welcome to linux.org :)

Download from here

https://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/audhs1/product-support/product/dell-3110cn/drivers

I think they are .zip files.

In Debian, from your File Manager, choose "Open With" and see what are the options, could be Archive Manager.

If the file/s are .deb, you can use GDebi which is either on your install, or if not can be installed with

Code:
sudo apt-get -y gdebi

If files are of a kind ending with .rpm we can convert them with a small utility called Alien.

I actually have as one of my two main printers ... a 3110cn.

The 3100 is very close but may lose some functionality.

Hi wizardfromoz,

Have a nice day too :) Thank you for your welcome!

As you can see on my screenshot, there is no driver for Linux Distribution.
Can you give me the direct link to download it for Ubuntu / Debian Distribution?

Sincerely,

Andrew

I understand, Andrew - my bad, failed to see the windozer references.

Go here

https://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/audhs1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=r130088

and download the file.

It is named

Dell-Color-Laser-3110cn-noarch.rpm

Now, .rpm is the protocol for naming file extensions for Redhat-based Distros such as Fedora, CentOS and the like.

We will use a small program called Alien to convert it from .rpm to .deb and then you will be able to use it.

I have a few things to do this morning, but I will scout around for a current link to Alien (its maintenance ownership has changed a little over the years). You let me know that you have the downloaded file, and I'll be back when I can with instructions.

Further to my previous Post -

If you have the dell .rpm file downloaded, then check to see that you have GDebi installed (sudo not required)

Code:
apt-cache policy gdebi

If it shows with a numeral 100 featured, it is installed. If not, then the 500 reference indicates its in your Repositories and you can install it as described above.

Once that is established -

Go to

https://pkgs.org/download/alien

Click the line for the Debian or Ubuntu you are using and download the .deb package.

Use GDebi to install Alien.

Use Alien to convert the Dell package from .rpm to .deb .

Following the conversion, use GDebi to install your Dell Drivers.

Find and follow through the Printers setup, and your Dell 3110cn will be installed.

Sing out any problems and report back here.

Cheers
