X, facebook, instagram, linked-in, youtube, google and similar hostile sites are all blocked in my browser.
Their behavior is indeed far beyond tolerable, majority of their users don't even have an idea about them.

It wouldn't surprise me if they're getting paid by MS or governments to censor free software, probably because it turns people away from buying their hostile products.

X sent me this email for no reason...

Disclaimer: Before continuing, I have no idea if actual abuse happened. I websearched why they quit and find only references to politically (in the left/right sense) ideological differences so I encourage anyone to correct me if I'm mistaken. Disclaimer out the way...

I don't know if I actually agree with this move because of the motivation behind it (I do agree social media is generally evil and I think social media accounts are a waste of resources for The Debian Project).

Twitter (okay, I'll try to call it X, but that sounds like a Marvel/Capcom trademark or a math variable -- and a Roman numeral)... X (don't feel right, gomen, it's Twitter, but I'll try)...

Getting back to my point about motive for quitting Twi-- X:

Twitter/X is no more unethical software-wise now than before. It has never run congruent to Debian's policies. Never. So why quit now? Well I'll give you a clue: "feel safe" is a huge red flag. That only means one thing in this era (and I won't say it).

I wrote and revised this next section more times than I can count trying to avoid political discourse. Can't be done so I deleted it. Sufficed to say I'm very much against politics in Open Source, in large organisations, etc. I'll leave it at this rhetorical question: what about all the people on the opposing side who were made to feel unsafe?

In my opinion, maybe
it would be better for many (including me) to move toward decentralized social media.
I wish that day would come. Odysee didn't really seem to catch on :(
We tried to decentralize banking, too, with Bitcoin. That got regulated the moment it got popular.
So long as there are massive corporations out there, I guess we'll always be at the mercy of whoever controls them at the time.

I like Mastodon and Reddit for now...

Everything is destined to end, as the Roman Empire also ended.

First, you have to shift public opinion to achieve that, which is impossible for an individual or small group.
That's what popular social media and mass media is doing, shifting public opinion so small groups or individuals can't do anything about it.

But good for small groups who dislike them, they've learned about their deeds and can enjoy their freedom away from them.

Public opinion, in general or if it can best be expressed "the masses," does not play a positive role on any subject. I don't want to be too critical, but the vast majority of people are being driven by the mass media, which tells you what they want you to know, and advertising also plays its role to bamboozle people into buying one product instead of another. I do not write without knowing the exact meaning of what I am writing: I have studied journalism and its "techniques" I have studied advertising and marketing and I am familiar with the slimy techniques these use. I worked sporadically in these fields because I didn't like it, and I let it go because in short I never liked deceiving others. I go my own way, and I hope to meet other like-minded people, but this is increasingly difficult in a society alienated by lies and nonsense...
