Yes, I think it's often the case that changes are imperceptible. It is however, possible to see changes which have taken place by viewing the changelog file for those packages which are installed on one's system. The changelog files are located in the /usr/share/doc/<package>/ directory. In debian they are usually in a compressed file but can be viewed with a command such as the following, say, in the case of firefox-esr:

zless /usr/share/doc/firefox-esr/changelog.Debian.gz

Cool, didn't know about the zless application, thanks! No matter how long you're using linux, there will always a new thing to discover, that's what i like about it
