could not get lmde 5 to install on ideapad320. i want to install it on lap to test out longterm before installing it on main mechain
i did everything it says does not work. i had linux mint 20.3, rockey linux and other running on it. i see the live environment it intsall i say yes at the end to restart computer. then go back to the installer like it never installed if i dont take usb out . when i take usb out . i just get boot screen with no lmde 5 installHave you checked out a page such as: https://www.infofuge.com/how-to-install-linux-mint-on-lenovo-ideapad-320-from-usb/? The first item you must be certain of is that your installation medium is true without errors. You usually check that out with checksums and a command like "sha256sum", or you can use the "cmp" command to compare the installation file on a usb with the original. Those commands are on a linux machine, but I guess MS machines have equivalents if you need to use those. I suppose after that you could hunt for examples online of installation on your hardware. The lenovo T15 which I have followed the linux installation instructions on the lenovo website which may or may not help in your case.
ya it cinnamon . i dont have a problem installing cinnamon, whcich is the one i asking about but i do like xfce better. btw this is just test machineDo you have the Xfce version of LMDE 5? As far as I can tell (looking at the site) the Cinnamon is still in beta, which is why I ask.
It does at installation but once installed it is simple to change to XFCE as is easily installed via the software managerLMDE only comes in Cinnamon, as far as I am aware.
ChrisObviously Brian,

mine is has a 1t hard dirve and amd a12. when i frst try to download my fire fox web browser sayed it was a risky so i click another mirror on linux mint websit to downloadSome of what I will say will not apply to you, but may help others,
why Linux won't install.
Most common problem is either a corrupt download or a bad burn of the ISO, check the Sha sum matches that given by the distribution builder, use a good quality clean install medium [pen drive or DVD-r]
second is trying to install the wrong ISO, trying to install a 64 bit ISO to a 32 bit system or trying to install a64 bit ARM distribution on a 64 bit x86 system
other problems are usually component based. So I looked up the workshop sheets, there are so many variations for the ideapad320. Depending on screen size, to what country it was made to be sold in, it was a bit of a task, However I cannot see any components that should stop you from installing Linux except for the storage drive.
Is your machine one of those with a SSD? If so, then you may need to enable AHCI in the main Bios before you start the installation.
Is it currently a w8/W10/W11 machine? if so again in the main bios you need to disable windows fast boot, and then fully turn off the machine[ to make sure it fully closes down after you switch it off , disconnect from the mains supply and if possible pull the main battery for 20 seconds], then follow the installation guide,
I will be in and out all day today, so I may take a while to answer further questions

re downloaded lmd5 on another usb and it still did not install . I even change the mirrorif its a standard hard drive then all I can now suggest is, check the integrity of the download/ISO [the sha sum] if that's ok disable windows fast boot [see above] and try again
LMDE only comes in Cinnamon, as far as I am aware.

What I *think* I know to be correct:
There's a "Community" Xfcx here: https://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=27
It is confusing. It's a fooler. Follow the link and check out the "Release Announcement." It's from 2008. The "Release Notes" throw a 404 error. So although your link says LMDE 5 Elyssa, it is actually LM 5, Elyssa. The versioning history is quickly verified with Wikipedia. Mint's use of female names in alphabetical order was a major clue... "E" was a long time ago since they're now on "U" (Una).Which I find quite confusing.
from what i know is ideapad320 was able to install Debian 11, Rocky linux 8.5 ,linux mint 20.3/20.2/20.1/20 and all the ubunut mixes. i do burn them with linux usb tools as download to the pen drive as an ISOView attachment 12050 you are burning the download to the pen drive as an ISO and not just copying across ! Then I just cannot think why you're having problems installing, unless its because you're trying LMD 5 which is still only a beta test version at the moment, have you tried LMD 4
