Congratulations to Linux Mint

To give even more perspective......

As they mention, you probably shouldn't use that number for anything important. It's just how many people searched their site for that distro specifically by name.

It'd be sweet to have real numbers but we Linux folks are generally against things like tracking and telemetry. So, real numbers are never going to be an option.

When i looked inside 'linuxmint-22-cinnamon-64bit.iso' i found that the ia32 EFI component i formerly required (for my Atom CherryTrail) was at least present, so i might have been able to install & reboot that one successfully. It's immediately followed by MX and although the ia32 (pc & efi) features seem arranged differently i can say it was my chosen option, which tells me the apple didn't too far from such tree. But ultimately, i'd have wanted benchmark numbers comparing the very select few .ISOs which managed to survive my minimalist test, knowing if that tablet worked fine then i could entertain better hopes on relatively new material.

IMO HardInfo2 is user-friendly & widespread enough to wish someday an anonymous layer can be added to collect comparable numbers and finally reveal the grand winner, measured on a large-scale collective sample.

It's always been number 1 in my book.

So, real numbers are never going to be an option.

That's not entirely true, historically.

IME , there were times when two of the top Debian-based distros (no names but you can guess who) used to say they had 25 million users and 37 million users.

Incidentally, on telemetry, it still goes on, and no, not just Zorin.

I won't further derail friend @kc1di 's thread with details, but may put cyber pen to cyber paper soon.

Of all distros I've used Mint is #1 in my book , But that is another story. Only wish Clem would reconsider KDE as an offering in mint. But as a Desktop Distro It just ticks most of the boxes that I need. So no matter what distrowatch does to come by it's numbers still think it's well deserved.

Linux Mint is currently the #1 in Distro Watches top 100 list. Well deserved honor.

Lately I have been taking detours off Mint. But every time it ends up like this:

Did it install without problems? Nope back to Mint
Can I log into the desktop (actually one fail here)? Nope back to Mint.
Problems with getting my two monitors setup correctly? Nope back to Mint
Can I find my favorite apps and install them easy? Nope back to Mint
Update the system and reboot. Still Running? Nope back to Mint
Modify UI, set wallpaper, shutdown and reset, play with apps, play with settings, explore the app store, like it still? As like all the others it sucked and I return to Mint.

Basically nothing I've played with is as good as Mint. Will I still play with others? Sure. Will I always return to Mint? Most likely.

Next up: I'd like to see Mint do a very good implementation of Wayland. So good, in fact, that it goes on and does not get changed. But to be #1 is a well earned position.

Problems with getting my two monitors setup correctly?
Doing that in Mint can be a...challenge
I am quite happy with the result now....but the first few times were "cranky" inducing.

I do not know of a tutorial showing newbies or windows converts, just how to go about it.
