I'm having problems enabling my microphone. I disabled it some time ago because I wanted to record a radio programme with audacity and didn't want external noise but I can't remember how I disabled it. I've tried going to volume settings, using pulse and using gnome-alsamixer but all to no avail.

I'll be grateful if anybody knows how to fix this :)

What's default input you turn on?
Sorry, I completely forgot to come back as I fixed it by experimenting with it.

True.
And it was very specifically answered! ;)
But it may have helped if just a bit more information were provided! LOL
(careful what you ask for - you just may get it!)
So I know for the future, what is the correct answer to what operating system are you using? I thought Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia was the operating system and wasn't trying to be awkward.

Oh that's fine :) You certainly did very specifically and correctly answer the question!
I was just trying to "tease" a little bit more info out regarding your system setup.

For future reference; it is very helpful to provide as much information as you can regarding the hardware profile of the computer in question. It really, really helps others to help you if you can provide the info.

Glad you got it fixed!
