Cant boot into Windows from grub after my Linux drive has been removed

For some weird reason i have to remove my second drive to update Win 10 but after i remove my second drive, which contains a linux os in it, the grub says no such device and will not let me boot into Windows. Can anyone help me fix this issue please.

welcome to the forums, when you removed the second drive you also removed the linux grub which had priority and gave you the choice of which system to use, there is no need to remove your second drive to update windows, But some windows updates may break your linux grub [there is an easy fix for that here https://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair/home/Home/]

Thanks for the reply but when i try to upgrade from win7 to win10 without removing my personal files it seems like i have to have only the drive which has windows in it to be plugged to my pc or the upgrader gives me an error. So that doesnt help...

Oh sorry if i couldnt make myself clear but my problem is grub doesnt let me boot into windows so i dont think it should be a microsoft side issue. Grub just enters to grub rescue and im stuck there

As long as the drive that had Grub installed on it is not in place you won't be able to boot into Windows.
IF all you have is the grub rescue prompt the grub folder most likely does not exist.

Sounds like you need Windows boot repair.

Where you in a dual boot Linux and Windows on the drive that you removed? OR>
Is Windows on it's own drive?

Both operating systems have their own drives. And the linux i have is Arch linux

The bios menu shows the name of my windows drive and after i put it as the prioritised boot device i still get to the grub rescue menu

just put your second drive back in and start windows from the Linux grub menu

addendum… and don't forget to save anything important from your current windows drive to an external drive before Windows upgrade

I assumed that too, however; confirmation is always nice.

The windows bootlaoder was broken so i fixed it using a win7 install usb, after that when i selected the windows drive as my boot device it didnt go into grub just directly into windows. So my problem was fixed and removing my linux driver was no longer a problem.
