Cannot boot elementary OS on dell inspiron i5 with windows 8.1. help!! Please!!!

Hi there. I really want elementary OS but when I boot from my live USB and select to try it, I get a distorted boot logo. Really distorted... Can anyone help me? please please please. I am sure that I dont have a corrupted iso image because I downloaded it twice. And I also tested it in VMware player

Just for clarification-

Do you get a distorted boot logo and nothing else works?

Or, do you get a distorted boot logo and then everything else works?

Are you trying Freya beta or Luna version?
