when i try to update or upgrade in terminal in kali im getting
E: The list of sources could not be read.
I then did nano /etc/apt/source.list and i see.
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib
deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main non-free contrib
which seems fine to me.
So why can i not update or upgrade. Checked around forums and kali org and what they say seems to be what i have
I cannot use synaptic to get gedit it reinstall source list as i have no repositorys it says.
same goes for command line.
So i thought i would see if any one has any suggestions b4 i have to reinstall the os.
cheers once again chaps.

sudo ?

sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

close nano correctly so it saves back to sources.list

(Kali Linux is meant for experts. If you have to ask a basic question, maybe, just maybe Kali Linux is not for you.)

Did sudo .
shows the same as with no sudo
I've sorted it now i just found kali repository list on line and and copied and pasted them into sourses.list.

Just an FYI - there is no need for sudo in Kali, you are always Root.
