I see this as the main problem of owning a server. When you self-host your stuff, you have to maintain a server on top of whatever you do with the things you host int here. If it breaks down, you're cut off from your services.Direct physical access to the hardware for maintenance.
Individuals rarely have a stock of replacement parts to keep a server in shape, so when something breaks that will mean days or weeks of outage. This is probably why many (if not most) rent a virtual private server or any other form of managed hosting.
